[Single] Resonant Blue - Morning Musume

I felt, the need, no wait, obliged to write about Resonant Blue. I already watched the other version of Resonant Blue at least 15 times in a space of a day, watched the dance version 5 times when the download finished, listened to the single 10 times minimum in a space of 2 days.

And yet. I still haven't killed it.

At first when I heard about an all Japanese all girl group, i was suspicious about their music. My first impressions were that, they had to be good looking but they couldn't sing naturally without they help of a studio to fine tune their voices. And that it would be bloody poppy. My tastes aren't refined to the extent to the extremes of pop at that time, i liked Ai Otsuka but that was kinda it. I liked HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR, YUI, etc at the time.

Oh how wrong i was. I decided to venture into the unknown abyss and download their 10th Anniversary Best Singles. I
thought it would be a good starting point, since you really can't go wrong with a collection of singles. Went on lastfm and searched, "Morning Musume". Looked for the most played song, it turned out to be Koi no Dance Site. Gave it a listen, i was going "What the fuck? Starts of with a Chinese/Japanese (i couldn't tell at the time, i was wondering why the hell they used it) Traditional Instrument. And my fears were true, it was very poppy. I was tempted to press stop but i wanted to listen to why this all Girl Band was so popular, i knew there was something behind all the looks. It wasn't exactly a good start but i didn't mind it, i think the background girls with the whistles cheering got annoying after a while. I knew from other blogs that Morning Musume recruited some Chinese girls which interested me in how they would fit in such an alien environment. So i moved onto a more recent single, Onna ni Sachi Are. This was more me, it had synthesisers and used more of a techno beat to it than...pop? Well i just liked it more...and the story goes on with me watch Joshi Kashimashi Monogatari...etc....

Aaaaaaaaanyways....

This song is just catchy. That's really it really. It uses synthesisers, a few brass instruments such as the trumpet, and the usual contemporary instruments such as the bass, piano, drums. But the use of guitar is used extremely well in the intro. I really can't write anymore on the musical side of things since its a bit hard to write on a song that i've never heard before. But what i can say is that vocal-wise this song is dominated by the vocally stronger members such as Ai, Reina and Koharu, and most other bloggers have found out already and leave the other members to back-up vocals or the "in between" phrases. Which i found extremely disappointing, since i love this song, because i just dislike how their just "throwing" the younger members onto the side and saying, oh, "its kinda our turn to shine so, you get to the back and just dance while we sing the solo's. You'll have your turn to shine after we graduate".

But this song is definitely sided with the vocally strong. But how i see it, isn't it the duty or the obligation for the senior members of the group to build up the junior members such as Mittsi or JunJun? (sorry, i deliberately left out LinLin coz i like JunJun far more since she has a distinct personality than LinLin)

If i relate what i said to the the original version of the Resonant Blue PV, it seems that way. But after watching the other version of Resonant Blue, i felt to myself, hey wait, this is far more balanced than the original PV, why the hell isn't this the Original PV, you can actually SEE the 8th Gen members or
even Risa or Eri. Risa and Eri are important members of the group, two of my favourite members and they get ditched to the side? That's a bit mean isn't it. If i proceeded with my theory that, the older members should get more time in the spotlight. Then shouldn't Risa have more time than, Reina or Koharu? Reina is only in the 6th Gen while Koharu is in the SEVENTH Gen.

SEVENTH.

IT DOESNT FOLLOW THE THEORY!

Risa should be there! IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE.

And if Reina is allowed to wear white in the PV, then shouldn't Sayu and Eri be allowed to as well? WHY IS R
EINA ALLOWED TO WEAR WHITE AND RISA ISN'T ALLOWED. MORE SO, WHY KOHARU ALLOWED IN THE FIRST PLACE?

But in the Other Version of Resonant Blue, its very apparent that the members that hold the majority of the "power" of the group wears white. Everyone loves Ai and Reina. I'm not so sure about Koharu. I haven't read much about Koharu and her power status but everyone loves Ai. She deserves in all seriousness to wear white if we are talking about "power". Reina also deserves it. But Koharu? I donno, maybe i'm just not familiar with Koharu's position, but if i was the person who designated the people who wore white. I definitely will not pick Koharu. I would pick Risa or Eri rather. I just feel its just not right to have different a power system. I know that each member has fans, and that every member has a different amount of fans. I know a lot, A LOT, love Ai, no doubt. But to boast by wearing white to symbolise the amount of "power" you have? It makes no sense to me. If your in a group, i'm being really stereotypical now, but there should be no gaps in power, everyone is the same. They are ONE.

I don't want to be stupid now, but look how much white Ai and Reina have compared to Koharu?

Does it show something? Ai and Reina are wearing long sleeved white shirts while Koharu is wearing just a white t-shirt and the others are wearing...black. Sorry about all this, I've just wanted to point out some subtle differences in how i see it. I mean, just look at it. Does it not point out something like a power gap between these 3 members and the rest of the crew?

And in this PV, i have no idea who was directing, but i'm trying to exploit what the director is trying to say to me/us. But does this PV show the true or somewhat true personalities of each member? (even though i know it is for marketing purposes, but hey, you never know)

Ai - hardworker? Trains hard?
Reina - I can't figure out what she wants me to think? That she's independent? Strong? By her outward figure it seems so, with the mini skirt, cap and how she holds her bag on her back.
Risa - Lonely?
Koharu - Enjoying the limelight?
JunJun and Linlin - inseparable pair like Aibon and Tsuji? Well, they have only started to learn Japanese, its not hard to understand why they won't stop to cling on each other for support.
Eri and Sayu - eating crepes? I donno about these two.
Mittsi - lonely again. :( Maybe since she's still at school and can't connect with the other members since she's still at school?

Even despite my theoretical power gap and their own problems and personalities, they come together to dance together (in the Studio dance PV and in the other version) and are still ONE. They meet up, and they only focus on dancing while nothing else matters.

Because this is Morning Musume.

Work hard, reap the rewards, become an idol, become a figurehead for all female teens, loved by many people, have the time of your life.

What I've said is purely and utterly theoretical. I could be absolutely wrong. But i have a feeling that I'm somewhat on the right track.

I'll upload the "Other Version" and the "dance studio version" as well as the single sometime later.

Cheers.

I really hope someone takes notice of this. LOL.

Sayu and Eri would be more comparable to Aibon and Nono, as they were best friends when they first joined.

But I think that the solo shots were kind of a way for each of the members to relieve stress. Aichan was exercising and getting rid of stress that way, Reina was probably shopping and stuff. Koharu likes attention, I guess. Eri and Sayu were best friends so they enjoy each other's company. Risa was listening to music and stuff, so that might be how she relaxes and JunJun and LinLin love to eat.

As for Aika, she was probably thinking and stuff about all sorts of changes and stuff, especially since she's the youngest.

I think it was a way for the fans to feel like they knew the members on a more personal level.
